SPEED | Popular topic, do you need it?

Tell me you haven't been at the golf course wondering how to hit the golf ball further, and I'll tell you I found somebody who's "fibbing" to me. Speed is a really popular topic. I want to address a couple basic issues and give you some direction. Decipher first, do you need speed? And when I say NEED, I mean really, do you need it? Here's the baseline metric I use. For men that aren't playing for a paycheck I use the LPGA tour averages I'm going to attach below (ladies use approximately 70% of those averages). Reason being, they play similar yardages to the recreational golfer, if not slightly further. They obviously score the golf ball really well. So if you can hit it that far? You're hitting it far enough to score.

Now if you just flat out want to the ball further, that's one goal. If you want to score the ball better, that's another goal. Do they overlap, yes. But if you're hitting the ball far enough, go to scoring opportunities. If you just want to flat cream the ball further, let's develop speed!

1. Body turn - maximize that turn!!! Turn your shoulders and hips the most. That will leave you the most potential for speed.

2. Turning speed & sequence - creating the proper sequence and maximizing the speed at which the body turns through the hit. The sequence should go (from the top of the backswing) hips, slight squat, shoulders catch up, weight works to lead foot, joints extend or straighten through the hit!

3. Ground force - that little jumping move we see from all the longest hitters. Why is it there? It can be a MASSIVE source of power if employed properly. The FEELING should be something similar to, squatting flexing the legs, and knees, then unloading as if you were to jump as high as possible without your feet actually leaving the ground.

Checkout my video below for the top 3 sources of speed I find in the golf swing. A detailed explanation.
