I want to take a little jog down memory lane.. Do you remember when or why you picked up the game of golf? Do you remember the feeling of that first golf shot you really struck crisp? I do. I remember starting to golf because my Dad encouraged me to try it out at a young age, 12 years old or so. I remember making my first bogey on a long par 4. I hit driver off the tee, smoked it! Then another follow up driver off the fairway, up near the green. I still remember those shots, they are pretty special memories for me.
So this letter to the golfing public is a friendly reminder, that golf is supposed to be fun! It is part of our recreation, free time, and it is a great time to be out on the course connecting with our peers.
What's the trick to having more fun? Well aside from taking golf lessons and improving your game *shameless plug/goof* the trick to having more fun on the golf course is having lower expectations! Now here me out a second..
Have lower expectations for your score, have lower expectations for your ball-striking, have lower expectations for your putting. These are all things that will help make golf more fun!
Here's the caveat.. You are aloud to have high expectations, but make them about your EFFORT & PREPARATION. Have high expectations for your effort, prepare yourself to the best of your ability, and go have fun.
After all, golf is supposed to be fun, this letter to the golfing community is just a friendly reminder that golf is a great game. Every day is a blessing to be out on the course. I hope you'll keep these words in your back pocket if you are finding yourself having a tough day out on "the links".
